Fates Will Find Their Way....in bed.

So...let's see here...
I'm sick. Last night I started getting a bit of a scratchy sore throat...this morning I woke up hardly able to swallow and feverish. Damn.

I did some extra homework today and finished another book.

And let me tell you - that book was a WASTE of good paper. I've never hated a book before, now I do. This could have been a great book, but it was poorly written by someone who obviously has SOME writing talent. UGHHH. There were too many characters and too much crap going on.

Fates Will Find Their Way by Hannah Pittard - 1 Star

Synopsis: Sixteen-year-old Nora Lindell is missing. And the neighborhood boys she's left behind are caught forever in the heady current of her absence.
As the days and years pile up, the mystery of her disappearance grows kaleidoscopically. A collection of rumors, divergent suspicions, and tantalizing what-ifs, Nora Lindell's story is a shadowy projection of teenage lust, friendship, reverence, and regret, captured magically in the disembodied plural voice of the boys who still long for her.

Told in haunting, percussive prose, Hannah Pittard's beautifully crafted novel tracks the emotional progress of the sister Nora left behind, the other families in their leafy suburban enclave, and the individual fates of the boys in her thrall. Far more eager to imagine Nora's fate than to scrutinize their own, the boys sleepwalk into an adulthood of jobs, marriages, families, homes, and daughters of their own, all the while pining for a girl–and a life–that no longer exists, except in the imagination.

A masterful literary debut that shines a light into the dream-filled space between childhood and all that follows, The Fates Will Find Their Way is a story about the stories we tell ourselves–of who we once were and may someday become.

My Thoughts: I, in all honesty, wish I could give this book 0 stars or maybe negative stars. I'm sure the author is a talented writer, but this book was poorly written. Probably one of the worst books I have ever read. I don't think I've ever been annoyed while I read a book, but this one accomplished that.

Dark Lover [Review] & A Birthday

You know what I realized? It's hard to come up with titles for blog posts. Thank God for book titles. :)

It's been a crazy week. I'm currently reading 2 books, which I never do. Both are for book clubs. I'm really not enjoying the one, Fates Will Find Their Way or something or another. It's written very poorly and it's annoying. The other, A Discovery of Witches, I've only gotten through a chapter so far, so no real opinion yet.

I finished up my Health class and only have my final left in Chemistry. I discovered on the Health class forum that apparently Coastline has a little window for grades that if you are within 5 points of a grade they will bump you up. I missed an A by 1 point in Health so that means it'll be bumped up to an A :) w00t. I still have around 5 chapters of Physiology & Anatomy, a quiz, and a final exam.

Matthew turned 4 on Friday. FOUR. My baby man :(( FOUR YEARS OLD.

And DLS happened and I lost a precious hour of sleep last night. I hate that. I love falling back an hour so I can gain an hour, but dang I hate losing an hour when we spring forward...guess it's for the best. Spring is only getting closer. Unfortunately it's been snowing all damn morning.

So...in the wee hours before Matthew's birthday I finished a book:
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward - it's book 1 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series - I give it 5 stars.

Here's a quick synopsis: In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing their enemies more than Wrath, the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood...

The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But when one of his most trusted fighters is killed - orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate - Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead...

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both...

And my thoughts: I thoroughly enjoy new takes on the traditional vampire. I was a little confused in the beginning because there were so many things going on, but once it really got going, it was amazing. I like books that keep me curious - and I cannot wait to start the next in the series :)

Oh and one more thing too! I've been starting some cool things on my foodie blog and one of those is Sunday Social - it's a round-up of my favorite recipes that I've posted and ones floating around on the web :)
